LIVE PERFORMANCE ABROAD: BUSINESS MODELS, INNOVATIVE PRACTICES… HOW CAN PRODUCERS AND DISTRIBUTORS IN FRANCE LEARN FROM THEIR COUNTERPARTS? WHAT IS TRANSFERABLE, WHAT SHOULD BE AVOIDED?

For some years now, live music has been evolving in France. Changes are occurring within the industry, terms such as cultural entrepreneurship, live industry…. are becoming increasingly common. Faced with the emergence of new models and ways of thinking in the French landscape, inspired for some by international patterns, one can legitimately wonder: where are we heading?

In attempting to answer this question, it is interesting to understand the economic models and practices at work in other territories worldwide. The MAP Network offers an observation and comparison of live performance’s operation modes in 3 large international cities.

How do producers and live performance venues work in different countries? What economic models and which involvement on behalf of public authorities? What kind of relationships with artists does it lead to? What structuring do we find on both sides of the artistic development chain?

What are the benefits and risks? If the operating of live performances in Paris must unavoidably evolve, on what safeguards can we count today? What role for the institutions in France?
